We investigated the incidence of pancreatitis in patients treated with the IV formulation Depacon. Our hypothesis was that IV Depacon may be more toxic in causing pancreatitis in epilepsy patients treated for status epilepticus SE ; and for substitution of oral doses when patients need to be NPO. METHODS 114 patient exposures in were identified from pharmacy records to have received Depacon IV between 1998 and April 15, 2003 at St. Paul Children's Hospital, St. Paul MN. Medical records were reviewed to identify patients who received Depacon for more than 24 hours. 65 exposures in 48 pts 25 boys, 23 girls, age range 0.07 to 19.4 yrs. ; , mean age 8.4 yrs. ; met this criterion.
